About our courses

Our courses blend history, political analysis, and intellectual rigor offered through short presentations and carefully curated study materials that cover:

  • The central role of capitalism in shaping our society, and the role of white supremacy (and other social machinations) as a divide and control strategy that supports it

  • The role of labor unions and radical political organizations in confronting capital and building an egalitarian society, and the pragmatic way in which solidarity and intersectionality can reinforce one another and support healthy movement growth

  • A vision of a healthy, non-punitive activist culture that celebrates the leadership of marginalized groups within a peer-based, egalitarian movement that is built on mutual interest and shared goals

Our courses also center compassion-based learning and a mix of reflective practices that support emotional, spiritual, and psychological integration of course content. Some of the ways we do this include:

  • Clear ground rules for participation in group processes

  • Facilitator modeling of vulnerability and self-acceptance with the explicit goal of creating comfort among group participants in being their authentic selves

  • Small breakout group discussions of programming content.

  • Reflection questions that encourage vulnerability, curiosity, and/or the opportunity for participants to relate course content to their personal experience

  • Grounding practices and occasional guided meditations designed to support the psychological, emotional and/or spiritual integration of historical and/or political content

  • Explicit practices to support emotional resilience when grappling with the enormity of what we’re up against and when working to build relationships across lines of difference
